Appliance repairs in Hillingdon UB10

UB10 is the western edge of the area we cover, and the honest part of a job here is the drive rather than the doorstep. Hillingdon and Ickenham are a longer run from our Northolt base than anywhere else on our list, so we plan the day around that and ring ahead instead of pretending we can land on a set minute. Once we are actually at the house, though, the work tends to be more straightforward than it is in the tighter inner districts.

The housing is suburban: interwar and post-war semis, a good number of detached houses, and up around Ickenham village an older, lower-density grain of larger plots and wider frontages. What that means at the kitchen door is space. Kitchens out here are generally bigger than the ones we squeeze into closer to Southall or Alperton, and there is often a utility room, a rear lobby or a garage return taking the washing machine and tumble dryer off the main run of units. That is a real advantage. A machine that can be pulled a full pace clear of the wall with its hoses still attached is a machine we can strip, test and rebuild properly, rather than working blind through a ten-inch gap.

The trade-off is what people here actually own. UB10 has far more American-style fridge freezers than the inner part of our patch, and a much higher share of integrated appliances — ovens, dishwashers and fridges built into the run and hidden behind a matching cabinet door. Both change how a visit goes. A wide fridge freezer is heavy and often sits in an alcove cut to within a few millimetres of it, so getting it out is a planned two-person move rather than something to discover on the day; tell us the make and roughly how wide it is when you get in touch. Integrated units come out on brackets and hinge arms that differ by manufacturer, and the cabinet door normally has to come off before anything else happens, which is worth knowing if the kitchen is fairly new and you would rather nothing was marked.

Parking is the one thing that rarely causes trouble. Most homes off Long Lane and Swakeleys Road have a driveway or hard standing, and the residential streets near Hillingdon Hospital and Hillingdon station are far less restricted than the roads further in towards Ealing. If there is room on the drive, please say so, because it puts a van full of spares and test gear a few steps from the appliance instead of a street away. One last local point: this corner of West London sits in a hard water area, so scaled heating elements, furred-up spray arms and slow-filling dishwashers come up constantly, and on the bigger fridge freezers the plumbed water and ice feeds are usually the first thing we look at.

Frequently asked questions

Can you repair an American-style fridge freezer built into a tight alcove?

Yes, and they are common in UB10 in a way they are not in the inner districts. The difficulty is rarely the fault itself — it is sliding a very heavy, very wide unit out of an alcove that was cut to fit it. We plan that as a two-person move, so please tell us the make and roughly how wide it is when you get in touch, and clear the floor either side.

My oven and dishwasher are integrated behind matching cabinet doors. Is that a problem?

Not a problem, just a slower start. Newer kitchens around Hillingdon and Ickenham use a lot of integrated appliances, and the cabinet door has to come off its brackets or hinge arms before the machine can be drawn out of the housing. Every manufacturer does it slightly differently. We carry the drivers for it, refit the door afterwards, and take care not to mark the fronts.

We are on the far side of Ickenham. Is that still within your area?

It is. UB10 sits on the western edge of what we cover, so Hillingdon and Ickenham are the longest run we make from Northolt. That does not change the price or the way we work, but it does mean we are honest about timing: we agree a slot with you and ring ahead on the day rather than quoting an exact minute we will pull up.

Do you need me to move the car off the drive before you arrive?

If you can leave a space on the drive or the hard standing, that genuinely helps, and unlike the inner districts most UB10 homes have one. We arrive with a van of spares, meters and test gear, and having it within a few steps of the kitchen means less time walking back and forth and more time on your appliance. On-street loading near Long Lane is usually fine too.

What does a visit cost, and when are you working?

The call-out charge is £80 per visit, with labour included for most repairs. More extensive or complex jobs may need additional labour, which we quote and agree with you before we start, and any parts are charged on top and quoted before fitting. Anything we repair or replace carries a 3-month guarantee on that specific part. We work Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 18:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 16:00, and take cash, card or bank transfer.
