Hob repair in Ealing W5
The one thing about a hob nobody can work out by looking at it is what it is. The rating plate lives on the underside, pressed against the worktop, so unless the appliance comes out no one can read it — which means the model number has to come from the manual, the original order, or the sticker somebody stuck inside the cupboard door if the kitchen fitter was thoughtful. Have that number to hand when you ring and there is a fair chance the part travels with us rather than being ordered afterwards. More on hob repair across West London and Harrow.
The second thing worth locating is the isolator. In fitted kitchens of this sort the switch is rarely on the wall above the worktop where you would expect it. More often it is inside the neighbouring cupboard, tucked behind an end panel, or in the cabinet directly beneath. Empty that cabinet before we arrive, because everything under a hob is reached from below — the connection block, the cooling fan, the ribbon connectors running from the touch controls to the board — and a base unit full of pans has to be unloaded anyway.
A handful of smaller things save real time. If the hob is induction, leave out the pans you actually cook with: a base gone slightly convex, or a pan that will not hold a magnet, accounts for a great many zones that appear dead. Try the child lock before you call, since on most machines it is a key held down for a few seconds and it is far and away the commonest fault that turns out not to be one. If the glass is cracked, a photograph sent ahead tells us whether that top is a stock item or a special order. And if the hob only cuts out once the oven below has been running a while, say so, because the two share their cooling air and a blocked vent is a different job from a failed zone.
Last comes the access. Give us the flat number and the buzzer that works, tell us which floor you are on, and mention it if the bays outside need a visitor permit, because across most of this district they do. We work on electric domestic appliances only, which for hobs means ceramic, induction and solid plate. The visit is £80 including labour on most repairs, more involved work is priced and agreed before we start it, parts are quoted before fitting, and the part we replace has three months behind it.

What Ealing kitchens throw at us
In the mansion block kitchens near Ealing Broadway the hob usually sits directly over a built-under oven, so the cupboard we need is the oven housing itself and the isolator is often on the wall behind it. Up around Pitshanger Lane the hobs are more often induction dropped into a stone worktop, where the cooling vent runs at the back of the cabinet below and gets smothered by whatever is stored under there.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the model number of the hob in our Ealing kitchen before the visit?
Not on the hob itself, unfortunately — the rating plate is underneath, clamped against the worktop. Look instead in the manual, the original order or invoice from whoever fitted the kitchen, or on the label some installers stick inside the cabinet door below. If none of that survives, tell us the make and roughly how old the kitchen is and we will bring the likely parts.
Our induction hob in a W5 flat shows a lock symbol and will not switch on — is that actually a fault?
Usually not. Nearly every induction and ceramic hob has a child lock that engages from one accidental press, and it clears by holding the key or padlock symbol down for a few seconds until the display changes. Try that, and try switching the hob off at the isolator for a minute, before booking anyone. If it stays locked out after both, the touch control board is the next suspect.
3-month guarantee on the part we replace. Any part we replace is guaranteed for 3 months from the date it is fitted. This covers the replaced part only — it is not a warranty on the whole appliance.
