Electric cooker repair in Harrow HA1
Freestanding cookers in Harrow tend to occupy the same spot: a gap left between base units, or the old chimney alcove in a villa kitchen where a range once stood. That gap is usually within a centimetre of the machine's own width, so the single most useful thing you can do before we knock is make it possible to bring the cooker forward. Everything that fails on this appliance — the selector switch, the grill element, the hinge set, the terminal block at the back — is reached either from the front with the machine out, or from behind with the machine out. None of it is reached with the machine in. More on electric cooker repair across West London and Harrow.
Start with the floor, then. Empty the oven and the storage drawer, lift the shelves out, clear about a metre in front and shift the bin and the mat. Old vinyl or quarry tile scuffs badly under a heavy appliance, so tell us what you have down and board goes on it before anything slides. If a tall unit or a pull-out bin butts against one side, mention that too, because a cooker in an alcove sometimes has to travel forward before the neighbouring cupboard door can open, which is the reverse of what people assume.
Then the information, which saves more time than the tidying. Work out what still works. If the hotplates behave normally and only the oven is dead, the supply reaching the machine is intact and we are looking at the oven element, its thermostat or a tired selector. If nothing responds at all, check the isolator switch above the worktop and whether a breaker has gone before we come. Run the grill, and turn the selector through all of its positions. A switch worn inside typically leaves two or three functions alive and kills the rest, and exactly which ones survive narrows the fault before anything is opened. If the controls have gone unresponsive, look for a lock symbol on the display first.
Two last things. Any smell of burning during use, or browning on the wall where the cable enters at the back, needs saying at the booking stage — a terminal block that has cooked is the one fault on this machine far better known about beforehand than found on the day. And photograph the rating plate, generally hiding on the door frame edge or behind the drawer, so the right switch or hinge set travels on the van rather than being ordered afterwards. The visit is charged at £80 whatever we find, most repairs include the work itself, larger jobs get a price you agree to before they begin, and every part fitted carries three months of cover.

What Harrow kitchens throw at us
In the villa kitchens near the Hill the freestanding cooker frequently stands in the old chimney alcove, a recess barely wider than the appliance, so it has to come out on its feet before the terminal block or the back panel can be touched. Controlled parking across most of the centre means tools and a spares case come in on one trip rather than several walks back to the van, which is another reason a clear run in front of the cooker is worth ten minutes of your time before we arrive.
What you can rely on
Frequently asked questions
What should we clear before you look at a freestanding cooker in a Harrow villa kitchen?
The oven, the storage drawer and roughly a metre of floor in front of it, plus the bin and any mat. Those alcoves are barely wider than the machine, so it has to travel forward before the back is reachable, and old tiled or vinyl floors want board laid down first. If a cupboard door on either side fouls the cooker, tell us at the booking.
Our HA1 cooker has a dead oven but the hotplates still work — does that narrow down the fault?
It narrows it a great deal. Working hotplates prove the supply into the appliance is sound, which rules out the isolator, the breaker and the incoming connection in one go. That leaves the oven element, the thermostat behind it, or a selector switch worn internally. Trying the grill and every selector position before we arrive usually tells us which of the three it is.
3-month guarantee on the part we replace. Any part we replace is guaranteed for 3 months from the date it is fitted. This covers the replaced part only — it is not a warranty on the whole appliance.
