A dryer has two things to get rid of: heat and moisture. The housing stock here makes both awkward. Underneath both sits the slow silting-up. Lint gets past a filter that has been rinsed rather than washed and lays a felt across the condenser block. The moisture sensor bars inside the drum film over with softener and hard water residue until the machine misreads how wet the washing is and adds time nobody asked for. So the whole path comes apart — filter, condenser, sump, hose and the duct behind the machine — gets cleaned properly rather than poked at, and then a timed load goes in to prove the drying time has genuinely come back. A cut-out that has failed open is replaced; a cut-out that has been doing exactly what it was designed to do is left alone and the airway is fixed instead. The visit costs £80 whatever we find.
