Electric cooker repair in Hayes UB3
Freestanding cookers still hold their ground in Hayes. Walk into an interwar semi or a post-war estate flat off Station Road and the odds are good there is a 60cm electric cooker standing on its own feet between two units, wired to an outlet plate on the wall behind it, with a gap either side you can get a hand into. That is the best case for us. The machine pulls forward, the back panel comes off, and the oven, the grill and the hotplates can all be tested in one go without dismantling somebody's kitchen to reach a switch. More on electric cooker repair across West London and Harrow.
Refitted kitchens in those same houses have often split the cooker in two — a built-under oven in a run of units with a separate hob above — and the newer flats near the station rarely have a freestanding cooker at all, because there simply is not the width to give one. If yours is built under, the oven has to be unscrewed from the carcass and drawn out with the supply isolated at the wall switch first. If it is hidden behind a decor door, add the door and its brackets to the job. Tell us which of the three you have when you book and the right amount of time gets set aside.
The faults follow the layout. An oven dead but hotplates fine points at the oven element or its thermostat, not at anything the two halves share. A grill not working is usually its own element or the selector contact behind the knob. A selector switch worn out by years of the same three settings is a common part and not an expensive one. A terminal block scorched at the outlet is the one we take seriously, because it means a connection has been running hot behind the cooker — on a freestanding machine that is precisely where nobody ever looks. Hinges gone and controls unresponsive round the list out.
Because so much of Hayes is still freestanding, a good share of cooker visits finish in one go: the part is on the van, the machine is accessible, and the test is straightforward. Where that is not true, we say so instead of starting something we cannot finish. The call-out is £80 for the visit, labour is included on most repairs, more involved work is quoted and agreed with you first, and parts are priced before they are fitted. Whatever gets replaced carries a 3-month guarantee on that component. We are out from Northolt six days a week, plus shorter hours on Sunday.

What Hayes kitchens throw at us
Off Station Road and around Barra Hall Park the freestanding electric cooker is still the standard fitting: on its own feet, wired to an outlet plate on the wall, with enough room either side to grip it and pull it forward. In the compact kitchens of the newer Hayes flats there is no such thing — the oven is built under or housed high and the hob is a separate appliance entirely. That one difference is why two identical cooker faults in UB3 can take very different amounts of time.
What you can rely on
Frequently asked questions
Is a freestanding electric cooker in a Hayes house quicker to repair than a built-under oven?
Generally yes. A freestanding cooker pulls forward on its own feet, the back panel comes off in the kitchen, and the oven, grill and hotplates can all be tested without touching the units around it. A built-under oven has to be unscrewed from the carcass and drawn out, and behind a decor door there are brackets and a door to remove first, so the same fault takes noticeably longer.
The terminal block behind my cooker in UB3 looks scorched — is it safe to keep cooking?
Stop using it and switch off at the cooker isolator on the wall. Scorching means a connection has been running hot, and it will not improve on its own while the cooker is drawing full current. It is not usually a difficult repair, but it does need looking at properly rather than being pushed back against the wall and ignored. Book it in and describe exactly what you can see when you call.
3-month guarantee on the part we replace. Any part we replace is guaranteed for 3 months from the date it is fitted. This covers the replaced part only — it is not a warranty on the whole appliance.
