The awkward question with a washer dryer is rarely what has broken. It is whether the machine has earned the part. A drying element, a thermostat, a cut-out, a fan, or a condenser channel that has scaled up is worth doing on an appliance that still washes well — ordinary parts, ordinary labour, usually finished in the visit. Bearings, a drum or a main board on a combined machine several years into a full household is a different proposition, and we will say so at the kitchen door instead of quoting it and letting you discover the rest later.
One more thing, and it is not a fault at all. The dry capacity of these machines is roughly half the wash capacity. Wash a full drum, press dry, and the cycle will run for hours and still leave the load damp, because the appliance cannot tumble that much cloth through heated air. Split the load and it behaves. If it still will not dry half a drum, then the condenser channel, the heater or the fan genuinely is at fault, and that is what we come to test — the channel first, since it is rinsed with cold mains water and fills with scale faster in this water than most people expect.
