Tumble dryer repair in Southall UB1
Three things make a tumble dryer visit go quickly in Southall, and none of them are technical. Knowing whether the machine is a vented one or a condenser. Being able to get at the back of it. And having somewhere for the lint to go once it comes out, because on a dryer that has been working hard in a full household there is a startling amount of it. More on tumble dryer repair across West London and Harrow.
Start with where the machine actually lives. In a great many UB1 terraces the dryer is stacked on top of the washing machine on a bracket at the end of a rear extension, or tucked into a lean-to off the kitchen with a hose pushed out through the wall. Stacked machines have to come down before a back panel will open, so clear the worktop above and the floor in front before we knock, and mention the stacking kit when you book if it was fitted by somebody else. If the dryer is vented, follow the hose with your eyes first. The commonest single thing we find behind a dryer that will not dry is a vent hose crushed flat against the wall because the machine was shoved back too hard after somebody cleaned behind it.
Have the model number ready as well; it is on the rating plate inside the door aperture or on the back panel. Empty the condenser water tank, and if the condenser block lifts out by hand, pull it and leave it where we can see it. A block matted solid with lint is why a dryer needs three cycles to do what it used to do in one, and quite often that is the entire fault. Run a finger over the moisture sensor bars just inside the drum too. In a house doing several loads a day those bars film over with softener residue, and once they do the machine starts calling a damp load dry, or running long after it should have stopped.
Then come the faults we are properly called out for. No heat at all, which is usually the element or a thermal cut-out that has tripped because airflow was restricted somewhere. A cut-out that has tripped again after being reset, which means the restriction was never found in the first place. And drying times that have crept up so gradually over months that nobody can say when it started. Resetting a cut-out without clearing the reason behind it is a repair that fails again within a fortnight, so we go looking for the cause rather than the symptom. The visit is £80 as a call-out with labour included on most jobs, additional labour on complex work quoted and agreed first, parts quoted before they are fitted, and a 3-month guarantee on the part that goes in.

What Southall kitchens throw at us
In the terraces off South Road the dryer is very often stacked above the washing machine at the far end of a rear extension, which means both appliances have to come apart before either can be worked on. Nearer Southall Park we see more vented machines pressed hard against the wall of a lean-to with the hose flattened behind them. Either way, clearing the floor in front of the machine before we arrive buys back more time than anything else you could do.
What you can rely on
Frequently asked questions
What should we have ready before you come out to a tumble dryer in Southall?
The model number from the rating plate, a clear floor in front of the machine, and a cleared worktop if it is stacked above the washing machine. Empty the condenser water tank and pull out the condenser block if it lifts by hand. If it is a vented dryer, have a look at where the hose runs behind it, because a crushed hose is often the whole problem.
Our tumble dryer in UB1 is stacked on top of the washing machine — does that make a repair harder?
It adds a step rather than a problem. The dryer has to come down off the bracket before the back panel can be opened, and in a narrow rear extension there is rarely anywhere to stand it except the floor space in front. That is why we ask you to clear that space and the worktop before we arrive. We refit the stack properly and check it sits level before we leave.
3-month guarantee on the part we replace. Any part we replace is guaranteed for 3 months from the date it is fitted. This covers the replaced part only — it is not a warranty on the whole appliance.
