Fridge freezer repair in Yeading UB4

A fridge freezer is the appliance where the route into the house matters as much as the kitchen at the end of it. UB4 makes that reasonably straightforward, and it is worth explaining why. More on fridge freezer repair across West London and Harrow.

This is a district of houses rather than towers, so a visit here involves no lift, no concierge desk and no loading bay. The van pulls onto the drive or the frontage and everything comes in through the front door. The pinch points are all indoors instead. The interwar semis near Hayes End tend to have a hall that narrows sharply at the stair, and a kitchen doorway that a tall American-style machine will not pass without its doors coming off first. On the later estate housing there is often a kitchen door onto a side path, which is a far better route in and out and well worth pointing out to us on arrival. Where a narrow cul-de-sac keeps the van further along, heavy parts come down on a barrow rather than under an arm.

The good news is that nearly all of what goes wrong with these machines is dealt with where they stand. A fridge that has gone warm while the freezer stays perfectly cold is the classic, and it almost always means the evaporator behind the rear panel inside the freezer has iced into a solid block, so no cold air can be pushed forward into the fridge section. That means emptying the freezer, taking the back panel out and thawing it properly, then working out why it happened: a seized evaporator fan, a failed defrost heater or sensor, or a drain hole blocked with debris that has been quietly puddling water into the salad drawer.

What we need from you is roughly a metre of clear floor in front of the appliance, somewhere to put the frozen food for an hour — a cool box, or a neighbour's freezer — and a couple of old towels. Tired door seals are the other regular caller, and they announce themselves as a machine running almost constantly and ice creeping back within days of a defrost. A seal is one of the easier parts to fit and one of the biggest differences you will notice afterwards.

The call-out stays £80, labour is included on most repairs, and anything we replace carries three months on that part. If a machine needs work that is outside what we do, we will say so at the visit rather than dress it up.

What Yeading kitchens throw at us

Yeading is houses rather than towers, so a fridge freezer visit here means a front door, a hall and a kitchen doorway instead of a lift and a buzzer. In the Hayes End semis that hall narrows at the stair and a tall machine only comes through with its doors off, while the estate houses off Charville Lane usually have a side door onto a path that is a much easier route for a barrow. Where a narrow cul-de-sac keeps the van further along, that side door saves more time than anything else we could do.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have to take our fridge freezer out of the Yeading kitchen to repair it?

Almost never out of the house. Most of this work happens where the appliance stands: we pull it forward far enough to get behind it, and the icing, fan and defrost faults are reached by emptying the freezer and taking off the rear panel inside. What we do need is roughly a metre of clear floor in front of it, somewhere cold to put the frozen food for an hour, and a couple of towels.

Our UB4 cul-de-sac is too narrow for a van to reach the house — does that hold up a fridge freezer repair?

Not really. The van sits wherever it can stand safely along the road, and the tools and any parts come the rest of the way on a barrow, which adds a few minutes rather than a problem. It is worth telling us at the booking if your kitchen has a side door onto a path, because on the estate houses here that route is usually wider and quicker than going through the hall.

3-month guarantee on the part we replace. Any part we replace is guaranteed for 3 months from the date it is fitted. This covers the replaced part only — it is not a warranty on the whole appliance.
