What Zanussi appliances are like to work on
These are honest machines. The cabinet construction is better than the true budget brands, the drum and tub arrangement on many models allows the bearings to be replaced on their own rather than requiring a whole new tub, and the layout inside is sensible to work on. That last point genuinely affects what a repair costs you, because labour follows access. A machine you can get into is a machine that gets diagnosed properly rather than approximately.
The faults come round in a familiar order. Carbon brushes on the older brushed motors give the classic no-spin, where the machine washes and drains perfectly happily and then simply refuses to build speed. Drain pumps block with coins, hair grips and bra wire. Heating elements scale up badly in the hard water across West London and Harrow and eventually break down to earth, tripping the kitchen at the same point in every wash. Door interlocks fail and leave the door locked with the cycle finished. Shock absorbers wear and the machine starts travelling across the floor. The dishwashers are straightforward too, going mainly on the circulation pump, the inlet valve and the drain, and the ovens on elements, sensors, hinges and seals.
Electronics are less dominant here than on the premium end of the market, which is a quiet advantage. Fewer functions depend on a board, so fewer faults end up being a board, and the ones that do are generally identifiable rather than mysterious. Where a module is genuinely at fault we price it with you before ordering, because on an older machine it can still be the repair that tips the balance.
Our honest verdict is that Zanussi is well worth repairing. The parts are cheap and easy to get, the platform is shared with two other brands so nothing is obscure, the mechanical side is durable, and the great majority of what fails is a single inexpensive component. Even bearings are worth considering on the models where they can be pressed out individually — we tell you on the visit which kind of tub you have, because that single fact decides whether the repair makes sense.
We are independent, with no manufacturer relationship at all. The visit is £80, covering the diagnosis and the labour on most repairs, and parts are quoted before we fit anything.
